The "Why" Behind Jocelyn & Co.
Jocelyn & Co. was created to be a modern, high-quality brand that would elevate the gift basket industry into the 21st century. Existing product and packaging being used within this $14B industry was dated - touting an old aesthetic.
The Challenges
Jocelyn & Co. was immediately accepted as an emerging specialty food brand and our sales catapulted to over $1M in just 11 months. But, with this growth came several challenges.
- First, we didn't anticipate the level of widespread acceptance and demand our products would garner in so many other vertical markets. This unintentional short-sightedness required some minor tweaks with our packaging but were made quickly with a small investment.
- Second, our production is a manual process and required regular process step reduction in an effort to maintain a favorable margin. Process step reduction can be made in a variety of ways including tools, machinery and training and this is an on-goingn process. We'll never been done improving.
- Third, our initial investment into Jocelyn & Co. was less than $500K. Our data analysis during the creation process did not yield such rapid growth and we found ourselves falling short on inventory.
The Ultimate Goal and Key Strategies
As we work towards our ultimate goal of becoming a $15 million dollar company with a 58% profit margin, we are focused on three key strategies.
- Market Expansion & Diversification: Increase our global footprint in both wholesale specialty foods but with gifting as well. We can achieve this by building strategic partnerships, strengthening our relationships with global marketplaces and growing our business with existing clients.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement: The technological solutions available for e-commerce companies requires a small level of customization to serve the gifting community. All of these solutions combined with product innovation based on CPG trends and continuous improvement will improve our processes to increase our bottom line.
- Obsessive Client Services: Creating a client experience that our network will publicly rave about is our priority. From overdelivering on expectations to loyalty rewards, empowering our team and personalized engagement, we'll give them the ultimate CX worthy of sharing.
